The elimination of violence against women, the participation of women in politics and decision-making processes in Moldova, the empowerment of women and the future priorities of cooperation between UN Women and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection were the main topics discussed during the meeting between Minister Stela Grigoraş and Asya Varbanova, Interim Representative of Country Women in Moldova.
Asya Varbanova mentioned that UN Women supported the elaboration of the National Strategy for Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence for the period 2017-2021, to be adopted soon, and is ready to support the Government in its implementation. This, as well as other priority areas for cooperation, is included in the new UN Women's Strategic Note for Moldova for the period 2018-2022.
In this context, Dr. Stela Grigoraş thanked UN Women's representatives for their support in developing and implementing the Strategy for Gender Equality in the Republic of Moldova for the years 2017-2021, mentioning the importance of stepping up efforts to create equal conditions for both women and men in decision-making at the workplace, but also to reduce violence against women.
An important topic discussed during the meeting focused on women's economic empowerment and women's training in information and communication technologies. In this regard, officials mentioned they intend to sign soon a memorandum of collaboration, pointing out all areas of cooperation and actions to be accomplished.
