The Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection and UNICEF join efforts to reform the child protection system

Today, on the 29th of September, Dr. Stela Grigoraş, the Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova held a meeting with the new appointed representative of UNICEF in the Republic of Moldova, Dr Desiree Jongsma.


Within the discussions, Madam Minister congratulated Dr. Desiree Jongsma with the occasion of her appointment, expressing her appreciation for the continuous support and assistance provided by UNICEF in the field of child protection, ensuring that social protection of children remains a priority for the Ministry.


"For more than 20 years, UNICEF has been a reliable partner of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in implementing several measures for the protection of our children," mentioned Dr. Stela Grigoraș.


At the same time, Dr. Desiree Jongsma highlighted the importance of the cross-sectoral collaboration for the successful implementation of the initiated programs. Therefore, Dr Desiree Jongsma reiterated the UNICEF's support in reforming the field of child protection and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.


Also, the UNICEF Representative assured that the assistance will be provided in the field of deinstitutionalization of children with disabilities, prevention of separation of children from the family environment, development of alternative services and strengthening of the capacities of professionals in the field of child protection, that are working at the local level.


At the end of the discussions, the parties emphasized the importance of the frequent meetings, for evaluating ongoing projects and establishing new collaboration priorities.
